Two Mid-Michigan downtown businesses awarded $25,000 Match on Main grants
The Match on Main initiative strengthens local economies by funding structural, equipment, and aesthetic improvements for small businesses in commercial districts.
What’s happening: Two businesses — one in Mt. Pleasant and the other in Harrison — have each been awarded a $25,000 grant through the Michigan Economic Development Corporaton’s Match on Main program, according to the Middle Michigan Development Corporation (MMDC). The funding will be invested into projects that strengthen entrepreneurship, improve accessibility, and enhance the vibrancy of downtown districts in Harrison and Mt. Pleasant.
About Mt. Pleasant project: HBHF5 Properties, LLC, a Mt. Pleasant real estate and business development, will use the grant to activate a new multi-use culinary incubator and community space at 115 and 117 S. University Ave.
The project includes specialized commercial kitchen equipment featuring modern flame-free technology, as well as the creation of an accessible outdoor patio space designed for community gathering and programming. The facility will support food entrepreneurs while providing vocational training opportunities for students through a partnership with the Gratiot-Isabella Regional Education Service District.
About Harrison project: Babe’s Country Kitchen will use the money for exterior building improvements to enhance the appearance, visibility, and customer experience. The project includes exterior painting, replacement windows and entry doors, upgraded lighting, and new signage. These improvements will create a more welcoming presence for customers while contributing to the continued revitalization of Harrison’s downtown business district. The eatery opened in June.

alike.”
About the program: The Match on Main program, administered by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, supports small business growth in Michigan’s downtowns and traditional commercial districts by providing funding for building improvements,
equipment purchases, façade enhancements, and other strategic investments.
What’s next: A ribbon cutting event for HBHF5 Properties (also known as Fab Five Designs), is scheduled for 4 p.m. August 21 117 S. University Ave., Mt. Pleasant.
