Outskirts Cafe expands menu to serve Mt. Pleasant ice cream
Outskirts Cafe is growing beyond its breakfast and lunch roots. Beginning in April, the Mt. Pleasant cafe is introducing a new offering that’s set to extend its hours—and bring a familiar favorite back to a well-known corner of town.

Outskirts Cafe has quickly become a dining favorite in Mt. Pleasant since opening in Nov. 2025, offering breakfast and lunch menu options daily until 2 p.m.
However, beginning next week, that’s about to change.
Starting April 2, Outskirts Cafe will be extending their hours—and their menu—to include serving ice cream in the afternoon and evenings.
“We will be offering several non-dairy/vegan/NSA [no sugar added] types of ice cream, so we should have something for everyone,” says Outskirts Cafe co-founder Chris Houlette.
Under previous ownership, the corner of Lincoln and Remus in Mt. Pleasant was known for serving scoops under the Dozer’s entity.

However, when Houlette and Bob Godich originally opened Outskirts Cafe at 1882 E. Remus four months ago, their focus was first on breakfast and lunch items. With ice cream equipment included in the building lease, they had ambitions for an ice cream expansion from the start.
Outskirts Cafe will begin offering Mt. Pleasant ice cream on April 2 and continue Thursdays through Sundays from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the month of April. Starting May 1, Outskirts will transition to ice cream offerings six days a week (closed on Tuesdays).
“We will be stocking several brands of hard-packed ice cream: Hudsonville, Ashbys, and Michigan Fresh,” says Houlette. “And we won’t close at 9 if there are people still wanting ice cream.”
