What’s Happening: On Oct. 14 the Mt. Pleasant Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (MPACVB) hosted its 20th annual Meet Mt. Pleasant Tourism Award, honored Meet Mt. Pleasant Experts, announced Destination Development Grants, and awarded a CMU scholarship recipient.

Local Tourism By The Numbers: Tourism in Mt. Pleasant is the third-largest industry behind education and healthcare, according to MPACVB. The 2026 Meet Mt. Pleasant Tourism Award Recipient: The annual MPACVB Tourism Award is given to a recipient who shows outstanding support for the tourism industry in Mt. Pleasant. This year, the MPACVB announced Papa’s Pumpkin Patch as the recipient. Since opening in 2000, this multi-generational farm has offered educational opportunities, hayrides, farm parties, rides on the Pumpkin Train, a Michigan Maze and Pumpkin Maze, plus shopping in the country farm market which offers fresh produce, baked goods, cider, and more.

What Papa’s Pumpkin Patch is Saying: At the banquet, Papa’s Pumpkin Patch owner Bill Miller Jr. accepted the award, honored to join past recipients who he says “I’ve looked up to, respected, have tried to emulate, and look to advice from.”

In 2006, Bill Miller Jr. and his wife Laurie took over the farm from Miller’s parents, expanding operations for the community year-over-year. While his parents are now deceased, Miller says the farm is continuously “growing into what they wanted.”

“We’re going to keep growing and doing things,” he says. “As far as this award goes, it’s a community award. We host people from around the world … It’s our goal to do as much as we can for as long as we can.”
