Mid Michigan College, in partnership with the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, will host a public Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebration on October 13 at its Mt. Pleasant campus, honoring Native culture.

100 red dresses call attention to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Movement

Over 100 red dresses are displayed across Mt. Pleasant, drawing attention to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Movement. Hosted at 10 sites, including museums and libraries, the exhibition aims to raise awareness. An event on May 16 at Broadway Park will feature speakers and personal stories. Community organizations, including the Zonta Club of Mt. Pleasant, are supporting the initiative, with plans for future annual events.

Central Michigan University recently held its 33rd annual Pow Wow this past weekend celebrating life and Native American culture. Six groups of indigenous singers performed at the event.

At the 33rd annual Pow Wow in Central Michigan University's McGuirk Arena, vendors aligned the inside corridors before entering the arena offering intricate handmade pieces such as jewelry, candles, soaps, lotions, blankets, clothes, medicine bags, and more.

Central Michigan University recently held its 33rd annual Pow Wow on March 19 and March 20th at John G. Kulhavi Events Center in the McGuirk Arena to celebrate life and Native American culture.

Tribe works to build a picture of life at Mt. Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School

Today, the site of the Mt. Pleasant Indian Industrial Boarding School is marked by deteriorating buildings, but less than a century ago it would have been filled with hundreds of Native American children taken from their families in an attempt to assimilate them into white culture. Now, the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan is working with a professor at Central Michigan University to build a picture of what life would have been like at the school and rehabilitate the grounds.
