In 1933, in the small town of Mt. Pleasant the bar business was booming. Prohibition had just ended, and in its wake a myriad of pubs and bars were popping up all over town. Discover the stories behind some of those bars that are still around today, as well as some that have popped up along the way!
Whether lifelong learning be a necessity of the workforce or a fun hobby, it transforms the individuals and communities touched by it. The Great Lakes Bay Region is home to a variety of lifelong learning classes that have opened doors to new opportunities, been the foundation of friendships, and even saved lives.
Pickleball is quickly growing in popularity across the nation, and so is the Mt. Pleasant Pickleball Group. With membership that has nearly quintupled in under three years, the group draws in players of all ages and even has out-of-state guests join in the fun from time to time.
Long after the flames of a fire have been extinguished, dangerous carcinogens and noxious chemicals cling to firefighter’s turnout gear. In 2018 the Mount Pleasant Fire Department invested in a commercial turnout gear washer; however, the gear was taking 36 hours to dry using their current drying system. So, the team made a new, better drying system at a fraction of the cost to purchase new commercial equipment.

On Dec. 2, Mid Michigan Industries held its annual Night of Celebration event to recognize and thank the businesses and individuals who help the organization create inclusive communities for those with barriers to employment, as well as those the organization serves.
This season is the time when many people begin to think about what they can do to help others. Seven local nonprofits have shared their holiday wish lists with items they hope to find in their stockings and under the tree this year.
